Pyro-gasification consists in heating waste formed by dry biomasses (wood, straw, non fermentable agricultural residues) to very high temperatures (between 900 and 1200 degrees) in a low-oxygen environment.
This methanisation or accelerated fermentation process is used to transform organic matter into biogas or synthetic gas. Two stages are needed to do this:
pyrolysis, which breaks the material down in 3 phases (solid > liquid > gas),
gasification by the addition of small quantities of air, oxygen, water or carbon dioxide transforms the solid and liquid phases into synthetic gas (or syngas).
The renewable gas obtained can then be injected into the natural gas transport grid or be transformed into heat, electricity, or even fuel for vehicles (bioNGV). It can therefore be part of a circular economy approach.
