What are the yellow posts and markers for?

Gas pipelines are buried underground, so gas infrastructure managers signal their presence by easily-identified yellow markers (sometimes posts) on the surface.

They show an emergency number you can contact if there is a problem: smell of gas, something not looking right, an accident etc.
